The tip of the tongue is an articulation point for many Arabic letters. Besides the alphabets that we have discussed previously, here a few more that are pronounced using the tip of the tongue.
The letters are pronounced from two regions. Those include a small part of the top of the tip and the area where the gums meet the top pair of incisors. For the articulation of these letters, the top of the tip of the tongue has to touch the gum line of the upper incisors.

Incorrect pronunciation can occur if these letters are sounded out using the soft elevated region behind the gums in lieu of the gum line of the top incisors. In such cases, the letters are emitted from the back part a little too far and this results in a very heavy sound of all three alphabets.
Another mistake can also cause errors in the pronunciation of these letters. If a large portion from the top of the tip of the tongue is used instead of just the small part of the tip, it again results in a heavy sound of .
The letter is the strongest one from all the Arabic alphabets. It has “tafkheem” (heaviness). It also sticks to the roof of the mouth, which is why it possesses a strong sound. A unique mistake that is associated with the pronunciation of this heavy letter is that it does not get enough strength while being sounded.

Also, sometimes most of the tongue does not stick to the roof of the mouth and this makes an incorrect sound of the letter.

Just like the side of the tongue, the tip is also used for the pronunciation of several Arabic letters.  We have previously established that it is the tongue area which involves the highest number of articulation points. There are ten such emission points that are utilized for the pronunciation of eighteen letters. The letters associated with the side of the tongue have been discussed. Now we will move forward to those letters that are pronounced using the tip of the tongue.

Articulation Point Tip of the Tongue Part 1

The letter  is articulated a little forward from the point of emission of laam.  is pronounced using the tip of the tongue and the gum area of the top pair of incisors. This letter can be pronounced both clearly and unclear. However, the rules of articulation are separate for each case. Here we shall elaborate only the rules for when Noon is pronounced clearly. The articulation point is applied only in either or both of the following scenarios:

• When Noon has a vowel on it and is pronounced clearly
• When Noon has a sukoon on it and is followed by any of these letters: 

Mistakes in the pronunciation of Noon are seldom. However, the only common error that usually occurs is when the letter is pronounced using both the tip and top of the tongue.

To correctly pronounce the letter   the tip of the tongue as well as the top of the tip must strike the gums of the top pair of incisors. While sounding out this letter, the tongue should not trill. You should be able to feel your tongue strike the gums.

The English letter “r” can be pronounced easily with the tongue hitting any part of the mouth. Therefore, those who are native to English might have a hard time pronouncing .

Incorrect pronunciation of  could occur in three case.

• If you do not strike the tip of the tongue with the top of the tip to the gums
• If the soft tissue behind the gums is used as a striking place
• If there is repeated trilling of the tongue

To prevent trilling, scholars advise that you should leave a little space at the tip of the tongue for the sound to run out. Incorrect pronunciation occurs when the tip is up against the gum in a tight manner.

There are three Madda letters Alif Madda Wow Madda and Ya Madda these three letters have their articulation point according to Tajweed rule from the empty part (space) in the throat and mouth. The empty spaces of the Mouth and the throat are known as Aljaouf .

What are the Common mistakes we make when reading Madda letters?

Most of the times the reciters let the sound of all or some of these letters come up from empty spaces of throat into the Nasal cavity. The nose most of the time it happens when they read in Wow Madda , Second common mistake is not prolonging them and reading them similar as reading the Harakats lesson. The least common mistake is when pronouncing Madda letters from specific place of the throat. If you want to judge that if there is mistake present you need to say the Madda letter and if you feel that there is a pull in your throat while saying then it is incorrect. These letters must be pronounced with the use of only the vibration of vocal cords and an the accompanying opening of your mouth for the Alif Madda , and circling of the lips for the Wow Madda , and lowering of the jaw when reading Ya Madda letters.
