Our great Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was the most effectual and sumptuous philosopher and social reformer ever known. He brought the people of an entire nation together under the unitary concept of faith in only one God, Allah Almighty and belief in the predominant articles of faith. It would seem that to achieve such success, you have to be forceful and assertive. That is not the case. Coercion was not the way of the Holy Prophet (PBUH). He believed in kindness and showed great love, sympathy and compassion toward others regardless of their caste, color, religion or economic position.

Be a kind MuslimIslam lays great emphasis on the observance of politeness, courtesy and good manners. This can be verified through various citations of the Holy Quran and many relevant hadith of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

“And speak nicely to people.” (Qur’an, Surah Baqrah; Verse No. 83)

As you can see, it is indeed compulsory for a Muslim to learn and maintain good manners and well conduct. We are commanded by Allah Almighty and such a command from our Lord is obviously held in great regard and respect. Furthermore, our beloved Prophet (PBUH) has established the best of examples for us through his own actions, words and gestures. It is for us to learn from all the sources available to us.

Abu Darda (RA) reported that Allah’s Apostle (PBUH) said, “Nothing is weightier on the Scale of Deeds than one’s good manners.”(Sahih Al-Bukhari)
